Divisional Plan

Professional Learning Funding provided by Manitoba Education - Please provide details below

1) To date, how have you used the money your division received for K-8 teachers' LwICT professional learning in 2008-09 and 2009-10?
Two day workshops have been offered to 200 K-8 teachers. As well, some of the funding has gone towards starting LwICT at the Senior Years level. This included a divisional overview of integration strategies.

2) What professional learning is occurring now because of this extra funding that you previously were unable to do?

To continue with the workshops with emphasis on SY LwICT.

3) Does your division have any strategies for ongoing professional learning (For example: Professional Learning Community - online, face-to-face, mentors, etc?)
To continue with developing a team of teachers in each of our school that take on the challenge of promoting LwICT and providing expertise. Extra funding has allowed us to provide SY schools with an overview of the LwICT philosophy and also provide samples of technology integration by way of a divisional workshop for school leaders and department heads. As well, PD funding may be available for teachers to attend conferences that promote technology integration.

4) What successful strategies would you like to recommend to other divisions?

For divisions attempting to introduce LwICT at the high school level, we would recommend an overview workshop which demonstrates current strategies already being used by local experts. In this way, others can be made aware of possible strategies to use. Funding can then be requested by schools to promote their own initiatives. See attached documents.

Report Card Samples

5) How often do you report on Literacy with ICT during the school year?
Once a year.

6) Which grades are reporting on Literacy with ICT?
Grades 1 through 8

7) When does the reporting occur?
Final Report (June)
  • Fall (September - December)
  • Winter (January - March)
  • Spring (April - May)
  • Final Report (June)

8) What feedback have you received from parents regarding reporting of Literacy with ICT?
No feedback to date. I guess that's a good thing.

9) In certain circumstances, a child may have more than one teacher. How would/do your teachers report on a child's literacy with ICT in this circumstance? Please discuss with your divisional team and record some possible strategies to address this issue.
It will be the responsibility of the homeroom teacher or the teacher designated to report on a group of students.

10) If there have been changes to your divisional statement of belief on reporting on LwICT, since last year, upload or insert the text below.
Both Early & Middle Years report cards will report on LwICT competencies in a separate area. That is, each student is being reported on only once. This will occur at the end of the year at each grade level.
Literacy with Information and Communication Technology (LwICT)
The following are the three competencies of Literacy with ICT as outlined by Manitoba Education Citizenship and Youth:
 Demonstrates critical thinking with ICT to plan and gather information
 Demonstrates creative thinking with ICT to produce and communicate technology
 Demonstrates ethics and responsibility with ICT
The infusion of these competencies across all subject areas is supported by the RETSD Student Technology Skills document.
